MS SQL Server 2012 Exam 70-460;Business Intelligence Developer 2008 to MCSE: Business Intelligence

Barely Passed!

This SQL BI exam(the most challenging one I ever met) includes 2 sections as well and your final score is the lower one. For example, in my case, I got 900 in BI solution design section but 700 in Reports section. My final score, the lowest one in this series, was 700, if there were one more wrong in reports section, I have to re-take this exam.

Anyway, still a good news that I obtained all SQL Server 2012 certificates available in market( SQL 2012 MCM not yet published).

Something for your reference.

There are 2 sections as well and it scores separately. Your final score is the lower one. if it is less than 700, you have to pay usd150 again if you intend to retake it.

Question types are pretty same as 70-459. There are four types,

#1. Drag and Drop

For example, you are given 7 boxes. In every box, it is an action. The question requests you to achieve the function how to make cube online as soon as possible. So you need to place the right boxes from left side to right side in a correct sequence.

Partition–>Storage setting–>Bring online as soon as possible.

#2. Hotspot

Given a cube edit UI, please spot which button is the right place to configure “change user” or which measure aggregation is for average. These are the real questions I met this morning.

#3. multiple choice, could be only one choice or tow choices are correct. It tells you clears.

#4. Case study.

This time, my memory serves me accurately. 3 cases studies and each follows 5 multiple questions.

All questions(Totally 49 questions for both sections) today came to me in this sequence.

  • Case study #1,  foll0wed by five multiple-choice questions
  • 9 other questions
  • then case study #2 and #3, each followed by 5 multiple-choice questions.(Eg. according to requirement, how to archive the HA for SSAS, how to re-estatblish reporting service subscription)
  • then 15 other questions.

70-460

Hope this information for the potential exam takers is helpful. Any other questions, please leave comments or email. Will help and reply as soon as possible.

MS SQL Server 70-459, Transition Your MCITP: Database Administrator 2008 or MCITP: Database Developer 2008 to MCSE: Data Platform

This exam(70-459) is intended for candidates who have already earned the MCITP: Database Administrator 2008, or MCITP: Database Developer 2008, certification and who wish to transition their skills to MCSE: Data Platform on SQL Server 2012.

This exam includes two sessions, respectively “70-464 Developing SQL 2012 Database” and “Design Database Solution for SQL 2012”. Your scores for these tow sessions are calculated separated and your final score for the exam is the lower one. If you lower one is less than 700, then you fail in this exam. Fortunately, this didn’y happen on me.

In term of question types, there are four types.

  • 1. Match(or drag and drop)
  • 2. hotspot(you need to hit the right spot on the UI in order to achieve the requirements tasked in question)
  • 3. Multiple choices
  • 4. Case study(This is new. I did not see this in 70-457 and 70-458. According to the case, you need to answer 5 questions{still multiple choices} after the case story)

If I remember correctly, they are 49 questions including 5 cases studies(maybe 3 case studies).

My experience on this exam was good though someone before told me this exam is tough. Seems not my case. I got 933 out of 1000 for both sessions. So what? Passed. MCSE–Data Platform.

MS SQL Server 70-458—Transit your MCTS on SQL Server 2008 to MCSA SQL 2012 Part 2

Unsurprisingly, I Passed 70-458 two week ago. The structure and timing of this exam are quite similar with the ones of 70-457; 2 sections again. One is from Admin and the other is BI (totally SQL2012 SSIS).

I missed fewer questions this time perhaps because I prepared the exam a little longer time than last time–7 days. Two are missed in admin section and one missed in BI.
